Dalt Vila is the name given to the upper part of the city of Ibiza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 under the title of "Ibiza, biodiversity and culture".
Our island was recognized for its strategic position and its privileged location in the Mediterranean Sea, as well as for the value of its resources, especially salt. Because of this, it was frequently the target of attacks, and although Jaume I conquered it at the time, that did not stop pirates and Ottomans from continuing to represent a threat.
This is how the construction of Dalt Vila began under the supervision of the architect Giovanni Battista Calvi. Despite several setbacks, the monumental work was completed and today we can visit it, being considered one of the best preserved fortified complexes with bastions in the world.
In its entirety, you can tour 7 bastions, 1 cathedral and a variety of points of interest including churches, chapels, museums, monuments and even the parade ground.
